ChatGPT Ads ads inside the conversation
ChatGPT Ads is OpenAI's advertising platform, which shows ads inside ChatGPT. The ad appears separately from the answer, is labeled as sponsored content, and does not change the answer. It includes an advertiser name, a logo, a headline, text, an image, and a link to a landing page.
What makes it different
An ad can be matched to the context and intent of the conversation (Context + Intent), not just to a keyword. People hold a whole conversation, so the ad can reach them at the moment they need your offer.
How it's built
- Campaign structure: a Campaign, inside it an Ad Group, and inside that an Ad (the ad itself)
- Three goals to choose from: Views (exposure), Clicks (bringing visitors to a landing page), Conversions (a defined action on the site, such as leaving details)
- Context Hints, a short explanation based on three questions: what we offer, to whom, and at which stage of the decision
- Measurement: a Pixel (a small piece of code on the site that measures what visitors do) or the Conversions API (passing conversion data straight from the system), and UTM parameters (tags in the link that show where each visitor came from). We look at the whole funnel, impressions, clicks, conversions, quality, and business result, not just the click rate
- A matching landing page: the message in the ad has to match what the visitor sees after clicking
- Privacy: the advertiser doesn't get access to users' conversations
The message in the ad has to match the page people land on, so we build the landing page too.

What we do
We set up the campaign: structure, ads, and Context Hints
We build a landing page that matches the message and connect the measurement
We manage the campaigns on an ongoing basis
We optimize against the whole funnel, not just clicks
